How to Transition to a Vegetarian Lifestyle

The term “vegetarian” actually refers to a category of people who don’t eat meat, fish, seafood or poultry. There are many different health and moral reasons why someone would want to transition to a vegetarian lifestyle. There are different sub-categories of vegetarians. These vegetarians don’t eat poultry, meat, seafood and fish; however they do eat eggs and consume milk. 

You’ve decided to begin a healthy vegetarian diet. How can you make the transition as smooth as possible?   

Instructions 

1.     Start slow. Try at first to eat vegetarian, meatless meals three times a week. This will ease you into the process and start educating you regarding various vegetarian recipes.

2.     Swap out meat for other foods. Instead of a classic meat lasagna, try eggplant lasagna. Raw nuts and seeds are a popular meat substitute as well.

3.     When you’re out at a restaurant, don’t hesitate to ask if you can substitute the meat portion of a particular meal with veggies or beans.

4.     Keep your meals simple. The best vegetarian recipes will include a short list of ingredients that are familiar to you.

5.     The whole world doesn’t need to know about your choice to go vegetarian. In fact, you’ll probably be avoiding a lot of pressure by keeping your decision low-key.

Tips and Notes:

  • If you really miss the taste of meat, try some of the various meat substitutes that are now on the market.
  • Get online. There are loads of vegetarian meals and recipes on the Internet.
